The sacrafice of fasting is known to all spiritual groups. It is taught for many reasons and in many ways. Fasting teaches patience, something most of us struggle with in one way or another. Acquiring patience leads to many benefits, such as stress reduction, self control and peace of mind.
I remember before I changed my lifestyle to eating once a day, I would get so impatient when I became hungry. I felt uncontrollably agitated to the point of really being angry if i did not eat someting in the next few minutes. It was not a pretty sight.
It took training the mind to take control of the body, meaning that I had to take complete power over my body. I understand that you cannot follow two masters, so either my body's desire to be fed all the time would be served or the mind's desire to control the body would be served. It was a real battle to the death. The death of parasites, cravings and mental weakness was the end result. Through the process of reducing the amount of meals and fasting gave me the ability to change some really bad eating habits, as well become healthier.
I just completed a three day fast, for me that means no food for three days only water, coffee or tea. And believe me the effects are powerful, I felt more focused, clear and intentional in my efforts. I was definitely more productive and the accomplishments showed in both business and academic success.
Don't be afraid to soar to new heights, try fasting for a day or two or three. Fasting is good for you, if you only knew.
